Spaceland Launches Its First Block Party On September 16-17th
There is a new Block Party in town, organized by my favorite show promoter: Spaceland Productions have announced Spaceland Block Party happening downtown LA on September 16-17th. The festival will be happening in the Arts District, at Row DTLA, a multi-use complex formerly known as Alameda Square enclosing more than 100 shops and restaurants.
Once again, it looks like a mini festival featuring a long list of bands headlined by Brooklyn hip hop artist Joey Bada$$, and Chicago’s Vic Mensa – both artists have previously performed at Coachella – and also featuring Indie rock act Highly Suspect, NYC Amelia Airhorn, garage punks The Horrors and basically a long list of indie bands: Snow Tha Product, Black Kids, Wavves, Betty Who, Preoccupations, They., DJDS, Sales, Porches, Tijuana Panthers, Oddisee and Godd Compny, Nombe, Lvl Up, Jesse Boykins III, Slothrust, Cende, Rafferty, Seratones, Bayonne, Mourn, Dude York, Wilsen, Troi Irons, Tanika Charles, Alex Cameron, Pop Noir and more to be announced.
I hardly know anyone on this list, and all I can say is that these are not your usual suspects. This may be one of the interesting part of the lineup, as it will be an occasion to discover new artists. Although the choice of the headliners seems to focus a lot on hip hop, the festival will mix hip-hop, with pop, punk, rock, dance music, street art and food
Tickets are on sale here, with a General Admission for both days at $50 (but this is a limited amount, prices should increase soon, so hurry up), VIP 2-day passes at $325 for +21 and VIP 2-day passes at $285 for less than 21. Single-day passes will also be available on August 10th. This is a good way to end the summer.
Here is a Spotify playlist of some of the bands playing the festival.
