If you grew up watching Nickelodeon in the early to mid-2000’s, chances are you know who Drake Bell is. For those who don’t know him: Drake Bell starred alongside Josh Peck in the Nickelodeon show called, appropriately enough, Drake & Josh. On the show, Drake would often show off his guitar and singing talent as his character Drake Parker, but there was always real talent there.

In 2005 and 2006 Drake Bell released two studio albums, both of which had a couple popular singles but now much else. Drake basically dropped out of the music scene until mid 2011 when he released an EP titled "A Reminder".

The title of his new EP is certainly appropriate, as it completely reminded me of how talented this man really is. One song on the EP, “Speak My Mind”, stands out in my mind as one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.

The beginning of any song is comparable to the first time you meet someone; first impressions are everything. However, I implore you to not be taken aback by your first impression of this song. It seems to start off like any other pop rock song but as it progresses, Drake’s passion breaks through the speakers and, trust me, it’ll turn you into a fan.

Listening to the lyrics really sold this song to me. Drake sings about watching someone he cares about go about their lives in an upset daze and he worries that he’ll lose them. However he expresses that he really only cares about her and he’ll be “fine” if she leaves.

For me, loving a song is all about empathizing and feeling what the artist is feeling. With Drake’s talent and lyrics, I would be surprised if you didn’t automatically fall in love with this song. Drake Bell is currently on tour, playing small gigs, and it would be well worth your while to go see him.
