I was not aware that Spongebob Squarepants, one of the most successful and popular animated shows ever, was the subject of a sort of collective obsession on YouTube, an obsessive internet meme about describing music? If you do a research on Youtube with ‘albums/music described by Spongebob, you will find plenty of videos with Spongebob illustrating your favorite.

Let Spongebob describes for you each Weezer albums, each Metallica albums, each Green Day albums, each Nine Inch Nails albums, each Sufjan Stevens albums… and if I don’t get most of the references because I am not familiar enough with each album of these bands, the each Radiohead albums make complete sense to me.

This is nothing new (some of these videos are several months old), but it seems there is an abundance of them, accumulated by YouTube over the years. You have to know very well the band to get it and appreciate the hidden references, but don’t go there while expecting to actually hearing the original music, these videos, which are made by people who are obviously fans of the artist and the cartoon, are savant collages of excerpts of existing episodes of the famous Nickelodeon series, and some of the scenes are actually even used several times for different albums of different artists,… but who cares, it’s funny!.

There are even videos going through the entire rock genre (this one is more literal) or a list of different music genres, and even a hilarious one about our favorite rappers! There is a ‘….described with Spongebob’ video for everything it seems, so go for it, you may find what you are looking for.
