Sacha is out
Enough already. No one wants this biopic. A documentary maybe, some fabulous footage, rare interviews this I would agree with but a biopic? No. Just think of how rank The Doors movie was. Queen’s Freddie Mercury should rest in peace and not be tormented by bad acting and cheesy scripts.
So the lead actor Sacha Baron Cohen bailed out- due to artistic differences and hell he sorta looked like Freddie anyway. But slowly but surely its falling apart. Remember the Jimi Hendrix movie? Lenny Kravitz pulls out and BAM- gone. Lets hope the same thing is happening here.
Deadline.com reports: “The reason is that the band wanted to make more of a PG movie about Queen, while Cohen was counting on a gritty tell-all centered round the gifted gay singer.
“Given the astonishing physical resemblance, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing Freddie but Sacha.”
Movie firm GK Films said in 2010: “Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand unto itself.
“Freddie was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role, coupled with Peter’s screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success.”
This thing was supposed to start filming three years ago- so far its not done squat. Add to that the fact Robert DeNiro is the director.. Good Lord let us all thank Sacha for potentially halting production for good.
