Redd Kross always has a formidable energy on stage showing their roots in punk and experimenting in different rock styles, flirting with grunge,… after all they have received accolades from music royalties from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore to Sub Pop cofounder.
Fronted by Bonnie Bloomgarden, who sounds a bit like Corin Tucker, they brought some real action at Vacation Vinyl, playing in the dark because they have a dark psychedelic sound, but at the same time a very joyously riotous sound, with some power that can blow your head off and female vocals that could often be women chants on a warpath
He was holding his guitar very high and tight, pointing it like a gun toward the amp, he has recently collaborated with Ty Segall and his sound couldn’t have been more punk-psychedelic with a heavy layer coming straight from the 70’s.
Which makes me think, I have probably use the terms psychedelic/psychedelia way too many times in this review, but try to see 24 bands in 10 hours!
I concentrated on the Echo where I got to see the entire sets of The Gooch Palms, Death Valley Girls, Walter TV and Wand, and ventured downstairs between the sets to catch a few songs from Pearl Charles – I had already seen her opening for Harper Simon
