Homme kept talking about the beauty of the night
On Saturday October 7th, it’s time for Cal Jam 17
first rate hard rock album with a hard back beat
‘Are you done fighting about this now?’
a presale fury for a dream of exclusivity
a driving force coming straight from their Era Vulgaris
a screen shot has been circulating on social media
Tom’s son has made a movie about the Eagles of Death Metal and the tragedy
I was able to take tons of pictures with a professional camera at Joshua Homme’s feet.
Iggy was in pure-punk shape, wild and cheerful
I was lucky, beside Ringo Starr’s 75th birthday (above) I have attended a lot of concerts and events.
I have decided to look back at this past year in alphabetic order,…
When was the last time I was left speechless after a show? When was the last time I said it was mind blowing? I am not sure…
Little Sister – Queens Of The Stone Age – I couldn’t take their last album but this one from 2005 is a doozy at least until they go riff mental… their glam instincts would work for em if they left it… nice bridge – B+
They didn’t talk much, Josh was visibly touched by the loving demonstrations of the enthusiastic crowd, but he shouldn’t have, as only the most die-hard fans had probably managed to get a ticket. In any case, the time was for music and not talking, and they played the show with a formidable energy while dispatching their songs as if they were rockets sent to the moon. The band kept us on the edge of a hard rock cliff, showing us once again they are one of the greatest rock bands alive.
Last night, Queens of the Stone Age played a ‘secret’ show, announced at the last minute at the Teragram ballroom, a tiny place for them. I got the chance to get a ticket, and they were fantastic as usual, but being in the front, at Josh Homme’s feet is really a treat… And now I have all these ridiculously good pictures of these guitar gods! The last true rock stars….
It was 100ºF in the house, and I was melting in front of my phone, then, I almost went through and for some reasons Ticketmaster rejected my password?
Paul didn’t play the nostalgia vibe too much, of course there were plenty of old songs, but some new ones too, and his dynamism on stage and simplicity while talking to the huge crowd was so comforting. From my seat, he looked like a tiny ant at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, but he ignited the sea of people, and the sing-alongs were heart warming
From what I get, this sounds like a sort of live aid for metal-hardcore veterans without the aid, and of course the songs were recorded at Grohl’s studio 606 in the Los Angeles valley, on the famous Sound City mixing board, according to Kerrang
The delivery was so fluid and was running like the easiest thing these men have ever done, Josh was balancing with his guitar, swinging so smoothly, managing to use his best falsetto over heavy music, mixing danceable rhythms with testosterone-charged metal action.
QOTSA has been called by Trent Reznor ‘the best rock band in the world’ that ‘could kick your ass if you ran into them in a bar somewhere’, and a lot has been made of Homme’s Elvis-Presley-like charisma
Josh Homme is a hard working man, is there a moment when he and his band have stopped touring this year? I am not sure and they even have announced new dates to this never ending Queens of The Stone Age world tour. But for now they also have a new video for the track ‘Smooth Sailing’ off their last album.
I think Homme simply got scared! A lot of musicians have been attacked on stage and Lennon was shot by a fan after all. Imagine being immersed in the music and suddenly seeing this guy jumping at you and wanted to do god-knows-what?
I got to see them at the Jimmy Kimmel Live on July 29th, and managed to bump (almost) into Josh Homme’s giant body when exiting the green room. But seriously, these guys have a mega-monster sound, they blow up the roof even when there’s none
At the heart of so many 2013 big albums, is the lack of song, from Prism to Artpop, from New to Hesitation marks, from …Like Clockwork to Britney Jean, the lack of songs kills the albums in their tracks. They don’t get heard often enough and when and if you do give them the time they need to hit your pleasure button they don’t.
I finally found my way to explore the dark room full of old books, carnivorous plants, antics, QOTSA memorabilia, taxidermied animals, and an ageless bulgy-eyed woman coming straight from ‘The Fearless Vampire Killers’.
‘The guy’s a kook, you know. He has security frisking bands on the way in. I just told him, ‘If you open up my bag, we’re not playing. So I guess it’s up to you to have to decide whether we’re playing or not.’… You shouldn’t frisk my guys’
