‘A&R is a work in progress’, added Blake, clarifying that the winning anthem’s artist will not necessarily be signed to the label, ‘Right now it’s all about forming relationships and understanding how this all works. We’re focused on distributing through the platform and digital sales’
Are ya kiddin me? Can it be that a crowd can harass an artist so well that the show wont go on? Seems that’s exactly what happened with Rick Ross- and its sorta pathetic.
Six of these albums are new to this week and of the old ones it certainly hits me as though Ross and Pharell might not have much staying power. Meanwhile, Frozen -which sucks by the way, has taken the world by storm and I can’t let it go.
The album charts are so volatile it is like an earthquake. Yet again, six of these albums are new to the charts, it is like they just explode into outer space of sound. Whooomp. all all the charts, whooomp gone again. I have never seen the charts like this before.
Half of this list are new this week, proof, as is Rick Ross, whose sales are down by 25% from his last album, that the album charts are a bewildering wonderland of medium cool bands here today and gone tody and all the real action is on the singles chart.
Matt Rad is all over this slice of modern pop dross misstep from a woman who should have returned to her roots and instead went to the pop charts. The only area of interest is yet another chorus that seems to have been made from the sweat off Bono’s brow and a mood infused with the loss of Corey – C-
Pharrell came, saw and certainly conquered us just the way he will the charts over the next couple of months. This album should take hi to the next next level! Otherwise, both Rufus hits and DBT in mellow mode are disappointments.
A truly superb sample walks the same line to less effect than Kanye, who performs an excellent rap, did on “Blood On The Leaves”. Big Sean is pretty excellent as well and while Ross is a big fat bore, here he bores to excellent effect. Easily the best song on the newbie – A-
GIRL – Pharrell Williams – A blast of pure pop for now people from the former Neptune producer who provides one slice of adult bubble gum after another topped not by “Happy” but the Justin Timberlake featured “Brand New”. Williams grabs his moment and doesn’t let go – ALBUM OF THE WEEK – B+
There are weeks and then there are WEEKS!! Drive By Truckers 12th album gets pride of place… until I listen to it anyway. I was really thinking of Pharrell instead but I dunno how good Mr. Neptune is when you get right down to it, “Happy” wore out its welcome with me some time last summer
New York – Angel Haze – the final release of 2013, after poet cum rapper got sick of waiting for Interscope to release , I’m considering 2014 so I can include it in my 2014 brain. This is a reggae beat ode and very very good – B+
Slippin And Slidin – Otis Redding – One of the great covers mostly because Redding has one of the great voices, but also because Little Richard was a teen phenom and his original sounds like a pop song, Redding sounds like a soul song – A
Ross is not a hip hop leader, he is a male Nicki Minaj, a guy who works better on the edges where his performance can add shading and depth and get out before you realize how average his flow is
This is the ultimate Ross song, and the most inspired use of the word
pussy ever, every verse works as a hook upon a hook upon a hook with Ross singing the hook on the space beat the beats – A
Rick Ross went from a Biggie Smalls soundalike to a big fat gangsta rapper with a major maybach crew and a headlining slot at Beacon Theater this Friday. If he lives long enough he could be as big as Big Pun.
