Nov 01 Jerry Lee Lewis AT BB King’s, Thursday, October 30th, 2014, Reviewed
a short set, tight, capable, the singing was not very good, the piano playing was fine, the Memphis mafia backing band excellent and the vision of Jerry Lee banging his walking stick on the keys was worth the hefty $125 price of admission. We won’t see his likes again

‘I think it goes in cycles, honestly, and I think that we’ve just been through a particularly low cycle point for guitar-based music, and electronic dance music has been kind of the focus’, he declared. ‘But I think it’s about doing something fresh and novel

Nov 01 Writing About Music Is About Writing
I got the name of the bass player wrong, KoL fans went crazy but my feeling was “it’s the fucking bass player, who cares?”, I didn’t, as long as I said what I wanted to say about the music as well as I could, getting the band member names wrong didn’t interest me. I didn’t care

Nov 01 Best Concerts Through October 31st, 2014
Billy Joel – Madison Square Garden – October 2nd, 2014 – back for another dip after the dastardly deep album New Year’s Eve gig at Barclay’s Center, the ease with which Joel performs to an audience of 20,000 people is a lesson artistic domination through repetition. He has siply done it so mny damn times by now, he can do it, that’s all.

Kat Edmonson is a little too unique as a vocalist and can grate given enough time but on this song she seems to be flying in the face of everything, include her own voice and jazz inclinations to make a Biblical point thrugh a pop song.

Nov 01 PJ Harvey Covers Nick Cave’s ‘Red Right Hand’
Although I know nothing about their current relationship, I imagine it must be a very strange thing to revisit an ex’s song? But PJ just did a cover of Nick’s famous song ‘Red Right Hand’, straight from the Bad Seeds’ 1994 album ‘Let Love In’.

You compromise, you throw yourself at your work, your home, your friends, you shake it up and you shake it off, and you even compromise with the guy and become buddies with benefits and then in the end, the pain isn’t gone, it is just dulled

Oct 31 David Guetta Gets An All-Star Cast For His Next Album
There is a satirical series on French TV, very inspired by the British show Spitting image, which makes fun of Guetta all the time. In one episode, a piano maker is tailoring a piano for Guetta, and of course the piano has only one note

Just what the world needs right now: a born again religious fanatic singing the blues. And singing it if no not badly, with a song here and a song there even better than that, not very well either

Stay Awhile – She & Him – The thing about tackling Dusty springfield with a 20 piece orchestra behind you is if he isn’t terrible then it must be good because this enormously tedious duo are honor bound to screw it up, but this is an effective version – B

CCM makes God into the ultimate agent for the NSA, the US Church seems to be in the market to anthropomorphize the mystical and mythical: how awful. But weight it as you may, it doesn’t outweigh this song of obedience and adoration- C+

After some members of the Transgendered community we upset by m characterization of Laura Jane Grace as a not believable woman, the community got upset. Stephanie Elliott Lowther, a transgendered woman and sometime rock nyc contributor came to my defense but with the current controversy over Bradley Manning now being a woman named Chelsea Manning, better to spend the next 38 years in prison (they expect her out in eight years) I thought I’d return to the question.
