Fall Out Boy at Amoeba and Cat Power at Zebulon? Good luck to get into these two gigs!
I’ll brook no denial
This is this time of the year, KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas is here
quite eccentrically wonderful
‘I’m tired of men who aren’t professional or even accomplished musicians continually offering to ‘help me out’ (without being asked), as if i did this by accident and i’m gonna flounder without them. or as if the fact that I’m a woman makes me incapable of using technology.”
Real Thing – Tune-Yards – I certainly don’t dislike Merrill Garbus enough to question why you love her, it is just that her songs, like this slice of funky weirdness meets doo wop, don’t stick to me at all – B
Why wouldn’t I. Rough Trade is a tiny club and Tune-Yards is pretty good live, and I haven’t seen her in a couple of years, and, as an added plus, Dirty Projector’s Olga Bell was opening. I had a ticket, I go to a lot of shows and so really why not?

I am really excited about all this though specifically, I enjoyed the first Eno Hyde song “Daddy’s Car” and the second release “The Satellite” almost as much. Plus, it isn’t Eno’s fault everybody wants him to produce them. He’s not like T. Bone begging for the business.
Rhode Island Is Famous For You – Buddy Clark – They don’t make em like Clark any more, he died too young, just 37 in a plane crash, but this is the version of “Rhode Island” you want if you’re looking for one – A
I haven’t been to Rough Trade yet, to be honest I never much liked the store and also, Morrissey’s hit job on the label and stores (and now club!) was enough to make me not very willing to go out of my way to check it out. But I had to get there at some point right, so OK, here we go now
Anything Could Happen – Ellie Goulding – Her breakthrough song was “Lights” but this one made her the real deal, a brilliant hooting track and a study in excitation that turned a dance track into a modern anthem and if the beat was less house and more disco, so much the better – A
