Desert Daze, the ultimate musical experience in the middle of the Californian desert, has just announced its lineup, or rather the first phase of it, because many bands will be announced in phase two.

It’s already an interesting line-up, with Aussie psych rockers Tame Impala headlining one of the three days, a good achievement for the indie festival as they are a big deal in the psych-rock department. It was difficult to top special guest Iggy Pop as last year’s spectacular headliner, but he was attached to the line-up much later, so may be more surprises are in store. Other notable bands are indie rock bands Mercury Rev (performing Deserter’s songs) and Warpaint, dark priestess Chelsea Wolfe, fuzzy rocker Ty Segall with White Fence, Malcom Mooney of the German krautrock band Can, Connan Mockasin, as well as a few familiar names (A Place to Bury Strangers, King Khan and the Shrines, Shannon and the Clams, Kevin Morby, Ex-Cult, Cut Worms, JJUUJJUU, Cat Scan) as well as less familiar names (Preoccupations, Pond, DakhaBrakha, Earthless, Kikagaku Moyo, All them Witches, The Holydrug Couple….)

The lineup brings together psychedelic bands from all over the world: if Tame Impala are Australian, DakhaBrakha are Ukrainian, The Holydrug Couple are from Chile, Kikagaku Moyo are from Japan!

The other big news is that the festival has changed its location, as the poster indicates Moreno Beach, Lake Perris. If it sounds a bit less magical than the institute of Metaphysics in Joshua Tree, Desert Daze organizers have already reassured fans that the fest will not lose any of its beauty, and apparently there is a beach at the new location:

‘The new location is located about 1 hour SW of Joshua Tree. So travelers from around the world can still enjoy the mystic landscape of our former home, as well as the otherworldly scenery of where we’ve been summoned next. Trust us when we say that you will love the new location. And we have more adventures to share in our old stomping grounds… Stay tuned.’

Campers should also find anything they need as the new venue will feature RV and tent camping in state park facilities with real showers and restrooms and access to RV power and water hook-ups, so the place sounds even more camper-friendly than old dusty Joshua Tree, with lake access and nature walks, beach club with lounging, swimming, sunbathing and boat rides.

The indie festival is taking place over 3 days (October 12, 13 and 14) and more headliners and bands will be announced later,

General admission and VIP passes start at $249 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 30, at DesertDaze.org.
