These days, some kids are still daring to live their dream and it pays, apparently! Spin has the whole story written by Buzz bands.la’s Kevin Bronson:

Nick Logie of the Los Angeles band Telegram, his girlfriend Ashleigh Allard, and their friend Adam Ashe showed up at Wayne Coyne’s door at his Oklahoma house, the morning of his 51st birthday. They had of course a present, a packaged copy of an album Logie and Allard had just finished recording.

They drove from LA to Oklahoma during 22 straight hours, and took the risk to ring at Coyne’s door without notice, but they were actually welcomed by the Flaming Lips’ frontman, who soon tweeted some pictures with the following explanations:

‘Some weirdos showed up on my porch … They drove all the way from LA to bring me a birthday gift!!!’

‘Come inside, just please don't kill me.’

The trio ended up spending four nights at his house, recording a song with a contribution of Wayne on lyrics and vocals, ‘I’ll Never
Hate Again", and even making a video.

A lot of people show up at his place but the fact that these guys had driven straight from LA was probably a little special as Logie explained:

‘Something just clicked. He invited us in, showed us around his amazing compound. It was kind of a blurry weekend. There was a party, we recorded a song and the next day made a video. The whole thing was surreal. We're still processing it.’

And what about the song? Coyne, with his usual humor, said:

‘It’s a great, great track. Of course it will be a hit because I’m on it … I’m only joking. They were really cool and their time with me was productive and because the song came out of a great story … [theidea that] these guys were either going to kill me or record with me.’
