They were announcing the FYF fest lineup this morning on KCRW, just when I was driving to work, and I have heard the big news which will probably please half of Los Angeles and beyond: Morrissey is headlining!! Good luck with that Sean Carlson! Have you been thinking about a plan B, because Morrissey may cancel at the last minute. But seriously, are you ready for a vegan FYF fest? Because he will demand it, right?

Anyway, this is great news, although the other headliner, Frank Ocean, is not exactly the type you would expect for the FYF fest. Still, they are many other choices, with a lot of the usual suspects such as Dinosaur Jr. Cold Cave, Joyce Manor, Metz, Thee Oh Sees, Death Grips, Mac DeMarco, Title fight, Run the Jewels… We have seen them playing the FYF fest before or at least some FYF fest sponsored shows, but they will make us feel right at home.

The other big news is The Jesus & Mary Chain on Saturday and D’Angelo and the Vanguard on Sunday, but is it me or it seems that the fest is turning more and more R&B and less and less punk? Beside Ocean and D’Angelo, we get FKA Twigs, Solange, Chet Faker,… so I am kind of indifferent to half of the lineup, and I am kind of excited by the other half, and beside the big names, I would also like to see Deerhunter, Savages, Mikal Cronin, Kevin Morby, Flume, Health, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Laura Marling, Girlpool…

The FYF Fest is taking place on August 22th and 23rd at Los Angeles’ Sports Arena and Exposition Park – the same place than last year, and this is the bad news, but I heard Carlson on the radio saying that they have been trying to solve the logistic problems they had encountered last year, like the endless wait to enter the festival, and the long walk (more than 30 minutes!) between stages. They heard us and we will have a good time once again. One last thing, the Drums are also playing and since they sound so much like the Smiths, think about the possibilities!
