The Growlers Have Opened A Beach Goth Pop Up Shop For Four Days
The Growlers, the LA party band that have created their very own festival, have opened their first Beach Goth Pop Up Shop, and I had the chance to check out the inside very briefly, yesterday afternoon. It’s a free event but you actually need a RSVP to attend one of the 4-day event and a mysterious link will eventually pop up each day on their social media, only useful to savvy fans who actually know when and where to find it!
They have promised live bands, drag queens, marionettes, and a colorful décor inside a warehouse on Naud street, a very urban/industrial setting not very far from the Beyond the Streets exhibit, featuring many famous street artists.
The place was filled with the Growlers’ world of cardboard skeletons and colorful imagery, with costumes from the band’s infamous live shows, artwork from Lizzie Nanut and photography from band archivist Taylor Bonin. Of course fans were able to buy limited-edition Growlers merchandize, including cut and sew bathing suits, shirts, and custom silk-screened apparel made on-site…
Open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this is an advance of the Growlers’ Beach Goth 2018, the annual band’s festival which will be held on Sunday August 5th at Los Angeles State Historic Park, and featuring The Voidz (Julian Casablancas has produced The Growlers’ ‘City Club’), The Drums, Hatchie, Jonathan Richman, GWAR, Doug E. Fresh, Youth of Today, Yellowman, Bushwick Bill, Starcrawler, Kirin J Callinan and more.
And if you manage to make a RSVP for the Pop Up Shop for today or this weekend – the link will eventually appear but the small place sells out very quickly – you will be able to check out performances by Cowgirl Clue, Bob Baker Marionette Theater, Puzzle, Neo Globs on Friday, a Drag Show and Starcrawler on Saturday and a Meet + Greet with Burger Records’ Sean & Lee on Sunday… On Thursday night, DJ Johnny Basil was rocking the shop with an Iggy-esque Miami tan.
