Sports: Women’s college basketball premier UCONN ended a 111 game winning with an overtime buzzer lost to Mississippi State, who they beat handily last year. The entire state of Connecticut is in shock. According to the New York Times “The winning shot for Mississippi State was a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer by the smallest player on the court, the 5-foot-5-inch point guard Morgan William. With 26.6 seconds left in overtime, UConn had tied the game at 64-64 on a pair of free throws by Katie Lou Samuelson after a flagrant foul for elbowing was called on Mississippi State’s Dominique Dillingham.” I swear I thought it was an April Fools joke! State are on to the Final Four!

Tours: If LCD Soundsystem crashed the ticket sellers website for their five days at Brooklyn Steel, what do you think the just announced Bruce Springsteen-Ed Sheeran acoustic tour will do when it hits Terminal 5 for five days in late September?  Info is a little hard to come by but I do know there will be zero physical tickets, credit card only entrance for the entire residency. My recommendation for the 60 date tour name? “Born Reddy”.

Concerts: Yesterday’s performance by the St. Louis Symphony of John Adams’ 2012 opera “The Gospel According To The Other Mary” was spectacular. Adams is our greatest living composer and the ecclesiastical setting of the music makes it a shockingly brilliant and beautiful, I’ve never heard anything like it. Grade: A

Old Music: I was listening to David Essex’s excellent 1975 vintage  All The Fun Of The Fair, the highlight of a first rate career that has included David being awarded the Order Of The British Empire. I was at Stockport College in ’75 and saw him on tour which was really quite awesome though the screaming girls got o be a headache.

New Music: The new Freddie Gibbs is the pleasant (if pleasant is the word I want) surprise of the week, at a brisk 31 minutes you keep on listening because you know you’re gonna hear “Crushed Glass” again. and are happy you did so. Grade: A-
