These Days: Sunday, April 23rd, 2017
Old Music: I’ve been on a Françoise Hardy kick, probably because the French election is today. Her voice is less seductive and more distracted, there is a hushed otherness that undercuts her all too consistent French romanticism. There are worse ways to spend your time than immersing yourself in what we love about France, However, if Marine Le Pen wins not only will I stop listening to both Hardy and Halliday but I will also stop eating french fries.
New Music: I overestimated the new Ray Davies and I didn’t estimate it that high to start with. After listening to it a number of times in succession yesterday, I can’t say I am very thrilled at all. Grade: C+. The week for me seems to be about Jessie Reyez (Grade: A) and Ron Sexsmith (Grade: B+).
Sports: The Rangers beat the Canadiens and move on to the semi-finals! So now, if the stars align, I have every intention of catching a game. Last year the Rangers came up against the Penguins in the first round, something you never want to happen. Eventually, the Rangers will have to face em again and you just hope New York has enough momentum going for em that they can cruise and not got throttled by the defending champs.
More Sports: The Mets are 8 – 10 after losing two consecutive games to the Nats, meanwhile the Yanks are 11 – 6, a game and a half out of first place Orioles.
Death: Erin Moran, Joanie of “Happy Days,” dead at 56. The first three seasons of the show, she was the embodiment of pre-teen childhood in the 50s. As she grew up it all got a little creepy.
Gossip: Some stories are just so juicy… Spice Girl, in the middle of a divorce, faces a nanny who claims they had sex and then was forced into a three way with Mel’s husband… when she was eighteen years old.
Fox News: Bill O’Reilly starts a podcast. That’ll show em…
More Fox News: “the accounting department festered under former CEO Roger Ailes’ management and includes a claim that Slater forced female black employees to arm wrestle white peers at their Midtown headquarters.”
