These Days: Wednesday, May 31st 2017
Terror: A bomb exploding near the German Embassy in Kabul, killing 80 people and injuring 350 people. The never ending spiral continues and it leads to a problem: terrorism is the Trump of organized violence, we are so sick of it, it registers for a moment and then goes into the back chamber of our brains. The problem is, even a Manchester Arena attack doesn’t resonate as they might want it to. It is too commonplace and the world is too big. Terror needs a repeat rinse in a similar place, if they had attacked five concert hall or clubs, or just Manchester city center, it would see like something with more effect than penny ante morons.
Concerts: Manchester One Love on Sunday will feature Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Take That, Pharrell. Niall Horan and Coldplay. They can use Niall for the pee break. At Old Trafford apparently, and also no bags allowed. Perhaps it’s time for a total ban at bags in arenas?
Old Music: Polished off Prince’s Indigo Nights (Grade: A) yesterday, and off we go to Macca’s All The Best. An album more interesting for what isn’t on there then what is. Really, even in 1987 it feels as if he was living on past successes. And then Legendary Performers by Elvis of course: “rock and roll music, if you like it and you feel it, you can’t help but move to it”.
Rock And Roll Music: Is like the guy you had a crush on in High School at 84 years of age. You can tell what you loved is still there, but you can’t quite see it.
New Music: Still working on my Singles reviews, not a bad week, not a good one either.
May 2017 In Music: Not a bad month but not a good month, a little on the also ran segment of existence.
Foreign Policy: about the back channels to Russia: back channels is how foreign policy is handled. The only peace treaty between Israel and Palestine was done solely through back channels.
Conspiracy Theories: Trump is in debt to Russia and is paying em back by greenlighting their taking over of the Ukraine and dismantling NATO.
Sports: Yanks won, Mets won. And on another planet:
