You will not have to be a fan of Bret Easton Ellis’ infamous (and classic) book ‘American Psycho’ to find this parody very funny, although it will help.
I don’t always find the Funny or Die videos extremely entertaining but this one certainly is. Picture this, Huey Lewis, from Huey Lewis and the News, and Weird Al Yankovic reacting the famous scene of the book and movie, when Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) murders Paul Allen (Jared Leto) with an ax in his immaculate apartment. It’s hilarious as Huey Lewis gives the same lecture on ‘American Psycho’ than Bateman/Bale did on Huey Lewis and the News' music before slaughtering the guy. Everything is there, the raincoat, the newspapers and the blood, but at least Huey has a good reason to murder Yankovic, ‘Try to parody one of my songs now, you stupid bastard!'
Huey Lewis also seems to have a great sense of humor, he didn’t grudge Ellis to have associated his upbeat music to one of the most gruesome scenes ever,… and the same can’t be said about everyone. When I saw Bret Easton Ellis at the Hammer museum a while ago, he said that Phil Collins, whose music is also largely discussed and dissected during Bateman’s long inspiring-music-critic-infomercial monologues, didn’t even want to meet with him!
